The Antonia Mærsk, one of A.P. Moller – Maersk’s first methanol-fuelled containerships, has reached a key operational milestone with its main engine hours now split evenly between methanol and conventional fuel.

According to Tórleif Simonsen, Chief Engineer at A.P. Moller – Maersk, the vessel has recorded a total of 9,336 main engine running hours, comprising 4,668 hours on methanol and 4,668 hours on conventional fuel.

The ship has so far bunkered 37,432 mt of methanol and consumed 32,275 mt, averaging 7.1 tonnes per hour in methanol consumption.

The milestone highlights growing confidence in methanol as a viable alternative fuel as Maersk continues its transition towards low-carbon shipping.
