France’s Haropa Port has secured €6.1 million in European funding to accelerate the electrification of port terminals along the Seine axis, as part of the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) programme.
The project, selected under the latest AFIF call, represents a total investment of €21.4 million and will focus on shore power infrastructure for both maritime and inland waterway vessels.
Funding will be used to support:
- Phase one of the electrification of Port 2000 in Le Havre
- Installation of electricity supply terminals for passenger and river cruise vessels in Paris
- New freight and cruise vessel electricity supply terminals in Rouen
The project forms part of HAROPA PORT’s wider “green corridor” strategy, aimed at reducing emissions from vessels during port calls by enabling more ships to connect to onshore power.
The AFIF programme is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and supports infrastructure projects located along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). HAROPA PORT has previously received CEF support for major works, including the electrification of river quays under the Borne & Eau programme in partnership with Voies Navigables de France.
