Vopak said it has partnered with Global Energy Trading Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based marine fuel supplier that has received a green methanol bunkering licence from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), to support the development of methanol bunkering in the port.

Under the partnership, green methanol certified under the ISCC EU scheme will be loaded at Vopak’s terminal in Tianjin, China, for export and received at Vopak’s Penjuru terminal in Singapore, where it will be made available for bunkering operations.

Vopak said the arrangement demonstrates its ability to support both upstream supply and downstream delivery of alternative marine fuels through its global terminal network.

The company added that its experience in handling complex and hazardous products, combined with its safety standards and storage infrastructure, positions it to support the scaling of new fuels such as green methanol in the maritime sector.

Singapore has been moving to establish itself as a hub for alternative marine fuels, with the MPA issuing licences for methanol bunkering as part of its wider decarbonisation strategy.

Vopak said it expects demand for green methanol to grow as shipowners look to comply with tightening emissions regulations and adopt lower-carbon fuels.

Global Energy Trading and Vopak said they are ready to support commercial green methanol bunkering operations in Singapore.
