Wison New Energies and H2Carrier have launched a project to develop a 500MW floating production, storage and offloading facility (FPSO) in northern Norway, targeting lower costs for green ammonia as a future marine fuel.
The partners said the project combines Wison’s EPCIC and offshore construction expertise with H2Carrier’s experience in floating ammonia developments.
The goal is to reduce the cost gap between clean fuels and fossil alternatives, which has delayed or cancelled multiple hydrogen and ammonia projects in recent months.
While the FPSO is not targeted exclusively at shipping, green ammonia is increasingly seen as a leading zero-carbon marine fuel candidate.
Cost competitiveness remains the main hurdle for adoption, and offshore production in resource-rich regions with low-cost renewable power could make supply more viable.
