Bunker Holding said an external lawyer has reported the company and its subsidiary Dan-Bunkering, to Danish police over alleged links to war crimes in Syria, which it strongly rejected.

“Over the past few days, we have been made aware that an external lawyer has reported Bunker Holding and our subsidiary company, Dan-Bunkering, to the police with allegations related to war crimes in Syria,” the company said.

The group stressed that the allegations relate to events from nearly a decade ago and a case it said was already resolved.

“The allegations come nearly ten years after the events in question and years after the case was thoroughly examined, resolved, and closed in 2021,” it said.

“We strongly reject the premise that Bunker Holding or Dan-Bunkering is responsible for or in any way connected to war crimes,” the company said.

Bunker Holding also pointed to changes in Danish law. “A new Danish law passed earlier this year now makes it possible to prosecute war crimes domestically,” it said, adding that “the underlying facts have not changed”.

It said the companies have strengthened their internal procedures and systems since the original case.

“We reject the allegations entirely,” the company said.
