An LPG tanker caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile east of Aden.

The Cameroon-flagged vessel Falcon was reportedly hit about 116 nautical miles east of Aden, Yemen, and later transmitted a distress signal reporting a fire and explosion on board.

“Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO,” the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on 18 October.

The cause of the incident remains unclear, and it is not yet confirmed whether Houthi forces targeted the tanker.

Some media outlets have claimed that the vessel was carrying Iranian cargo.

The Falcon has previously been flagged by the US-based group United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) as being involved in suspected illicit transfers of Iranian energy and identified as part of the so-called “shadow fleet.”
