Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum have signed an agreement to develop an LNG liquefaction and bunkering station at El-Raswa in Port Said.
The project will secure gas supplies for a new liquefaction and storage facility and strengthen cooperation between the SCA and companies in Egypt’s oil and gas sector.
The Ministry of Petroleum, through the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), has held consultations with the SCA and gas operators over recent months. The project has also been supported by feasibility studies with input from South Korean institutions.
SCA Chairman Osama Rabie said the LNG station is part of the authority’s plan to shift towards cleaner marine fuels in line with IMO emissions targets. The facility will supply LNG to tugboats and ferries that are being converted to run on the fuel, helping improve the canal’s competitiveness.
