The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is set to introduce a refreshed logo and visual identity, following a presentation by Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez to the 34th session of the IMO Assembly, held from 24 November to 3 December.

The updated design aims to honour the organisation’s legacy while signalling its readiness to address contemporary challenges in global shipping.

Addressing the Assembly on its final day (3 December), Dominguez said: “The updated logo and the new visual identity embody our enduring commitment to safe, secure, efficient and environmentally-sound shipping, and to cooperation among Member States to protect people and the planet.”

Rooted in the original emblem adopted more than 77 years ago, when the body was founded as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization, the modernised identity preserves the world map, olive branches and anchors while placing greater emphasis on the ocean as the central element.

Drawing on the broader United Nations design framework, the revised logo uses a deeper shade of blue intended to improve clarity and accessibility, including for users with visual impairments. A new font and colour palette further support consistency and brand recognition across IMO communications.

The updated logo will be made available in all six official UN languages as the organisation transitions to its new visual identity.
