Énestas Enters Galveston LNG Bunkering Market With Power LNG Deal

Énestas is moving into the US LNG bunkering market through a strategic partnership with Power LNG that will target marine fuel supply at the Port of Galveston.

The agreement gives Énestas a role in the development of Power LNG’s Harborside Terminal and Project Seawolf, a planned LNG liquefaction and bunkering facility on Pelican Island.

Rather than wait for the new facility to be completed, the companies plan to start LNG distribution by truck. The initial operation is expected to serve marine fuel customers as well as industrial users and virtual pipeline customers.

Énestas will contribute capital, LNG transport and storage equipment and its experience in downstream LNG operations.

Project Seawolf is ultimately intended to bring LNG production, truck loading and marine bunkering together at Galveston, while also providing a base for exports to Latin America and the Caribbean.

The project is aimed at a port that has a growing cruise and cargo presence and sits within the wider Gulf Coast energy market.

For Power LNG, the partnership provides a route to establish LNG supply in the market before the full project is operational.

Énestas, which has built and operated LNG infrastructure in Mexico for more than a decade, said the agreement is part of its international expansion.

The two companies also plan to use the partnership to pursue additional LNG distribution opportunities across the Gulf Coast.
