DBMatic, part of De Boer Marine, and Weforsea Shipping have turned their long-standing cooperation into a new maritime data technology company, MariControl.
The new company will combine onboard hardware, sensors, connectivity, software and AI-driven analytics in an effort to give shipowners and operators a single environment for collecting and using vessel data.
The two companies already have their technology installed on more than 250 vessels, providing MariControl with an established base as it targets the shipping and fishing industries.
The partnership grew as DBMatic and Weforsea increasingly found themselves working on different parts of the same vessel data chain. DBMatic brings onboard hardware and data infrastructure, while Weforsea provides software and maritime digitalisation expertise.
One example is the fishing trawler UK225 Auke Senior, where DBMatic hardware and sensors are integrated with Weforsea software. The system provides voyage optimisation, energy-efficiency insights, market data and weather information through a single dashboard.
MariControl will offer tools covering vessel performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, weather routing, fuel and emissions optimisation, digital reporting and compliance.
For fishing companies, the platform will also include AI-supported applications. It can, for example, assess routes by balancing fuel consumption, weather conditions and voyage time.
Digital reporting and compliance will be one of MariControl’s first areas of focus.
The company plans to use data already available from vessels to reduce the administrative workload for shipowners and crews, without immediately requiring major new hardware installations.
MariControl managing director Louwe Post said the company was created to move away from standalone maritime technology systems and towards an integrated platform combining data, hardware and AI.
“The future of the maritime industry does not lie in standalone systems, but in one intelligent ecosystem where data, hardware and AI work seamlessly together,” Post said.
MariControl will initially focus on customers in the Netherlands and wider European market, with plans to expand internationally.
The company will be introduced to the maritime market at SMM Hamburg. Existing DBMatic and Weforsea customers will continue with their current service agreements, installed systems and points of contact.
