CLdN has placed an order for two new RoRo vessels with South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, expanding its fleet with larger ships designed primarily for trailer cargo.
Construction is expected to start in early 2028, with the vessels due for delivery in mid-2029. They will be the 15th and 16th ships CLdN has ordered from the shipbuilder over the past decade.
The new vessels will have an additional deck and more ground space than CLdN’s existing 5,000 lane-metre ships. Wide ramps will provide direct access to the upper decks, allowing faster loading and unloading in port.
The ships will be dual-fuel capable, operating on marine diesel or LNG, with space reserved for larger electric shaft generators and batteries as the technology develops.
CLdN expects fuel consumption per vessel to be similar to its 5,000 lane-metre ships, while the higher cargo capacity should improve fuel efficiency per tonne-kilometre by 30–40%.
The vessels will add capacity and flexibility to CLdN’s network of RoRo and container services across Europe.
