Bunkering firm Sonan Bunkers has secured a renewed £50 million ($61 million) refinancing package from HSBC UK to accelerate its international expansion.

The facility, agreed on improved terms, will fund the opening of a new office in Central America — the company’s first base in the Americas — while strengthening its presence across key global shipping routes.

It will also unlock working capital to support broader growth plans.

As part of the strategy, Sonan will create two new roles in Dubai and two in Central America, alongside further expansion in Greece, where the company is relocating its office to Athens.

The funding will also support investment in operational infrastructure and alternative fuel solutions.

The latest funding package is a pivotal step forward, enabling us to expand into the Americas – a milestone we’ve been working towards for some time.” CEO Graham Furse said.

Founded in 2014, Sonan Bunkers now operates across eight jurisdictions, including London, Athens, Rotterdam, Oslo, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore and Dubai.

The company expects annual turnover to exceed $500 million within the next 12 months.
