Rockwell Automation is supporting the launch of the new Energy Observer 3 (EO3), a zero-emission laboratory vessel that will test low-carbon technologies at sea.
EO3 runs with no direct greenhouse gas emissions and uses ammonia as a hydrogen carrier. It features fuel cells, an ammonia engine, wind propulsion wings, batteries, and solar panels across its superstructure.
Rockwell will provide automation and data systems to help monitor and optimise the ship’s hybrid energy setup in real time.
The partnership between Rockwell and Energy Observer began in 2016 with the first Energy Observer, a hydrogen-powered catamaran that completed a seven-year global voyage.
