MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has ordered six 3,700 TEU container ship newbuildings at China’s Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, with each vessel fixed on a 10-year time charter to a top liner company, the firm said on Tuesday.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2028. MPCC said the ships are based on a new design optimised for speed and fuel efficiency in regional and feeder trades, while retaining flexibility to shift between trade lanes as market conditions evolve.

The six vessels will be prepared for alternative fuels and advanced emissions-reduction technologies, allowing them to adapt to tightening environmental regulations over their operating lives.

The total investment for the project is $292.5 million. MPCC said the initial charter period is expected to generate around $479 million in revenue and approximately $288 million in EBITDA. Financing will be structured through a mix of equity and debt.

In addition to the newbuilding order, MPCC said it continues to advance portfolio and financing initiatives, including capital recycling and balance-sheet optimisation, as part of its long-term growth strategy
