The US forces have detained another Venezuela-linked tanker in the Caribbean.
The tanker, Veronica, was detained by US forces earlier today, as the US takes control of Venezuelan oil flow.
“The Veronica is the latest tanker operating in defiance of President Trump’s established quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean, proving the effectiveness of Operation Southern Spear yet again,” the US forces said.
The US has reiterated that “the only oil leaving Venezuela will be oil that is coordinated properly and lawfully.”
The latest detention comes as Washington intensifies efforts to choke off unauthorised Venezuelan oil exports, arguing that crude sales have long funded the Maduro government and its allies.
US authorities have increasingly targeted tankers, insurers and intermediaries involved in moving Venezuelan cargoes, while signalling that any future exports must take place under US-approved licences and oversight.
