DNV Verifies Titan’s First FuelEU Pooling Round

LNG bunker supplier Titan Clean Fuels, part of Molgas, has completed its first FuelEU Maritime pooling exercise for the 2025 compliance period, with the pool independently verified by classification society DNV.

The company said the pool covered several hundred vessels, combining both over-compliant and under-compliant ships to balance compliance deficits across participants.

Titan described the outcome as a proof of concept for its FuelEU pooling service, which it plans to expand in 2026 and beyond to include a broader base of vessels.

Under its model, Titan manages the entire pooling process end-to-end, including supplying over-compliant liquefied biomethane (LBM), onboarding or excluding vessels, and securing third-party verification. The company also assumes full contractual responsibility across the value chain, allowing it to respond dynamically to bunker market conditions and pooling demand.

Its know-your-customer (KYC) framework is used to ensure that all participants meet financial obligations and comply with sanctions requirements.

As both a supplier and bunker vessel owner, Titan includes its own tonnage in the pool. During the latest period, around 73% of LNG consumed by its Optimus bunker vessel was LBM (bio-LNG), with the company expecting this to rise to nearly 100% in the next phase.

Commercial Director Grégoire Hartig said pooling is already creating tangible value for LNG-fuelled vessels, particularly those switching to LBM, by monetising compliance surpluses under the regulation.

Titan added that the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the European Commission’s FuelEU Maritime framework, describing pooling as a flexible mechanism that incentivises early adoption of low-carbon fuels.

With shipowners seeking to optimise compliance costs, reduce exposure to FuelEU penalties, and improve emissions performance, the company expects pooling to become a key commercial lever in the years ahead.
