Singapore-based AET has signed shipbuilding agreements with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers.
The new vessels will give AET dual-fuel capability across all its tanker segments — Aframax, Shuttle Tanker, Suezmax and VLCC.
Each ship will be fitted with an Everllence 6G70ME-C10.5-GI main engine, SVESSEL smart ship system, and energy-saving features including a hybrid bow design and hydrodynamic fins.
When running on LNG, the vessels can cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 23% compared with conventional fuels, while also reducing particulate matter and sulphur and nitrogen oxides.
AET President and CEO Nick Potter said the newbuilds mark another step in building a more sustainable fleet and supporting customers’ decarbonisation goals.
