AXEGAZ Trading & Technologies (T&T) and Cargill have carried out a bio-LNG liquefaction and loading operation at KN Energies’ Klaipėda LNG terminal, transferring the cargo onto an Avenir small-scale LNG bunkering vessel for distribution to clients across the Baltic region.

The companies said the operation demonstrates Klaipėda’s growing role as a hub for alternative fuels, supported by its FSRU-based infrastructure and new capability to virtually liquefy biomethane sourced from European producers.

The partners framed the move as a response to tightening EU decarbonisation rules, including FuelEU Maritime and the inclusion of shipping in the EU ETS, which are driving demand for renewable fuels that deliver verifiable lifecycle emission reductions.

AXEGAZ, accredited under ISCC-EU since 2022, said bio-LNG can achieve sharply reduced — and in some approved pathways, negative — carbon intensity scores, making it an increasingly relevant bunker option for operators seeking compliance flexibility.
