Axpo has expanded Italy’s LNG bunkering capacity with the addition of Green Pearl, a 7,500 cbm LNG bunkering vessel positioned at the port of Genoa.

The vessel has been chartered by Axpo under a long-term agreement and was commissioned by G&H Shipping Srl, a joint venture between Gas and Heat S.p.A., San Giorgio del Porto Spa and Sofipa Spa.

Designed to conduct both ship-to-ship and ship-to-truck operations, Green Pearl will distribute LNG and bio-LNG to maritime and onshore customers, improving flexibility and reach across Italian ports. Axpo said the vessel supports lower-emissions fuel supply chains and strengthens Italy’s position as a regional LNG hub in the Mediterranean.

Speaking at a ceremony in Genoa marking the vessel’s entry into service, Axpo’s Head of Business Area Trading & Sales

Domenico De Luca said:

“Today’s launch marks a milestone for Axpo and for Genoa, strengthening our leadership in small-scale LNG and bio-LNG. By enabling lower-emission solutions and supporting future renewable fuels, Green Pearl reflects our pragmatic approach to the energy transition and reinforces Italy’s role as a regional hub.”

Commissioned in 2023 and chartered for an initial ten-year period, Green Pearl will primarily operate along the Italian coastline and in the western Mediterranean, supporting growing LNG and bio-LNG bunkering demand.
