Chemship Teams Up with MMT to Cut Fuel Use and Emissions

Dutch chemical tanker operator Chemship B.V. is teaming up with Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) to reduce bunker fuel use and cut emissions across its fleet.

MMT will install its FuelOpt system on nine Chemship vessels as per the agreement. The system automatically controls how a ship’s engine and propeller work together to make sailing more efficient, using less fuel and producing fewer emissions.

The move follows a successful trial on Chemship’s Chemical Challenger, where FuelOpt helped optimise the vessel’s main engine and wind-assisted propulsion system.

MMT will also provide Fleet Analytics, a digital tool that tracks vessel performance and fuel efficiency in real time.

The first two vessels – both Japanese-built multigrade tankers – will be fitted with FuelOpt by the end of 2025, and the rest will follow in 2026.

FuelOpt works with any kind of fuel, whether conventional or alternative, and can also be combined with Wind Assisted Propulsion (WAP). When used with WAP, the system automatically adjusts the engine to take full advantage of wind power, turning wind energy into direct fuel savings.
