France’s container line CMA CGM has strengthened its push into alternative fuels with the delivery of another methanol-capable container ship from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.
The new vessel, the CMA CGM Mercury, has a capacity of 13,000 TEU and becomes the fifth in a planned series of 12 dual-fuel ships ordered from the South Korean yard.
All of the ships are equipped to run on both methanol and conventional marine fuels, with the balance of deliveries scheduled through 2026.
The CMA CGM Argon, another 13,000 TEU unit from the series, was delivered in May.
“Capable of using green methanol, this newbuild moves our energy transition forward with a scalable alternative-fuel option that cuts emissions per box and keeps flexibility across trades,” the company said.
