France’s container line CMA CGM has decided to reroute vessels on its FAL 1, FAL 3 and MEX services back via the Cape of Good Hope after having recently resumed transits through the Suez Canal.

The company said the decision was taken in response to what it described as a “complex and uncertain international context”.

“In light of the complex and uncertain international context, the CMA CGM Group is constantly and closely monitoring all potential impacts on its operations,” the company said in a statement.

“As a result, the CMA CGM Group has decided for time being to reroute vessels deployed on our FAL 1, FAL 3 and MEX services via the Cape of Good Hope. Situation will be reviewed regularly,” it added.

The FAL 1 and FAL 3 services operate on Asia–Europe trade lanes, while the MEX service links Asia with Mexico.

CMA CGM said it remained “fully mobilized across our global network” and advised customers to consult its website for the latest information on service adjustments and vessel schedules.

CMA CGM had been among a small number of major container lines to cautiously resume Suez Canal transits on selected services in recent months, following a period of widespread diversion around southern Africa due to security concerns in the Red Sea.
