German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has launched Disney Cruise Line’s third LNG-powered cruise ship, the Disney Destiny, at its Papenburg shipyard. The 140,000 gross ton vessel recently left the building dock and is now docked at the outfitting pier as final preparations continue.

Following the successful deliveries of two sister ships in 2023 and 2024, the Disney Destiny is scheduled to enter service in November 2025. It will operate voyages primarily to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean, expanding Disney Cruise Line’s LNG-powered fleet.

LNG remains a relatively niche fuel within the cruise sector, with only 29 LNG-fuelled ships among a global fleet of 770 vessels, according to classification society DNV.

However, this number is expected to grow significantly, with over 600 additional LNG-powered vessels forecast to join the market by 2030, driven by tightening environmental regulations and rising demand for cleaner shipping fuels.
