Class society DNV has reported the first month without any alternative-fuel vessel orders since 2018, after August saw no new additions to the orderbook.
Just two LNG bunkering ships were recorded on DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight (AFI) platform last month, highlighting a sharp slowdown in contracting, Kristian Hammer, product manager AFI and senior consultant at DNV, said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.
So far in 2025, 178 alternative-fuel vessels have been ordered, down almost half from the 350 recorded over the same period in 2024.
Hammer noted that the drop comes alongside a generally weaker newbuilding market this year.
