Danish offshore shipping player Esvagt has struck a deal with fellow wind turbine maker Vestas for a new service operation vessel (SOV). The newbuild, which will be the sixth purpose-built SOV for Vestas, will work at Ecowende’s Hollandse Kust West offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.

Esvagt and Vestas have been cooperating since 2010 and the latest tie-up comes with a 15-year contract with extension options.

“This new contract not only underlines our shared ambition of continually pushing the envelope on efficient wind farm operations, it also cements Esvagts’s position as the largest owner of build-to-contract SOVs,” said Søren Karas, chief strategy and commercial officer at Esvagt.

The new wind farm, developed by a joint venture of Shell and Eneco, will be commissioned in 2026. It is expected to be the most ecological wind farm yet, with minimal impact on the natural habitat of birds, bats and marine mammals and a thriving underwater world.

Esvagt, with a fleet of more than 40 vessels, said that adopting ecology measures fits well with the company’s ambitions to run “the most sustainable operation possible”. According to the reports published in splash247.com .

“The battery-hybrid SOV is a new compact design, with the lowest possible fuel consumption, and is prepared for full electrification,” the company noted.
