Fincantieri has delivered Star Princess, the second LNG-powered cruise ship for Princess Cruises, at its Monfalcone shipyard.

The vessel, with a gross tonnage of about 178,000, is the second-largest ship ever built in Italy and the second dual-fuel vessel to join the Princess fleet.

The newbuild can accommodate around 4,300 passengers and is designed with advanced systems to improve energy efficiency.

LNG, the ship’s primary fuel, is currently regarded as the most commercially scalable option for reducing greenhouse gas and particulate emissions in the cruise sector.

“Star Princess is a symbol of our ability to shape the future of the cruise industry, combining tradition and innovation,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, adding that the project underscored Italy’s leadership in sustainable shipbuilding.

The Monfalcone yard, Fincantieri’s largest cruise production site, has delivered more than 40 vessels since 1990 and supports over 23,000 jobs through its supply chain in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
