Babcock’s LGE business has received approval in principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its ecoCPTR onboard carbon capture system.

The technology combines Aqualung’s facilitated transport membrane CO₂ capture process with LGE’s proven ecoCO2 system, creating a low-pressure, modular package suitable for both newbuilds and retrofits.

LGE said the compact design simplifies installation while delivering operational and environmental benefits.

“The award of this AiP marks the next step in the ecoCPTR® journey, and follows closely on from our recent investment in Aqualung’s funding round,” said Neale Campbell, Managing Director of LGE.

“Combining facilitated transport membranes with our ecoCO2® system offers a robust and cost-effective carbon capture solution to help operators decarbonise their fleets.”

Jose Navarro, LR’s Global Gas Technology Director, added: “Lloyd’s Register is pleased to award Approval in Principle to Babcock’s ecoCPTR® system, recognising its potential to simplify onboard carbon capture through the integration of membrane capture and CO₂ liquefaction technologies.”
