Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of Grande Manila, its seventh ammonia-ready pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), following a naming ceremony held on Sunday at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
The vessel was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Trading Company and forms part of Grimaldi’s latest generation of large car carriers.
Named after the capital of the Philippines, the ship reflects the group’s long-standing ties with the country’s maritime sector and follows the recent launch of a new service linking China with the port of Batangas. The vessel’s godmother was Doris Ho, president and CEO of the Magsaysay Group of Companies.
Grande Manila has a capacity of up to 9,241 CEU and is designed to carry electric and conventional vehicles as well as other rolling cargo, including heavy and high loads. Grimaldi said the design can cut CO₂ emissions per transported unit by up to 50% compared with previous-generation vessels.
The ship is classed “Ammonia Ready” by RINA and is equipped for shore power connection.
It will begin its maiden voyage this week on the Asia–Europe service.
