South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean has successfully carried out a ship-to-ship LNG transfer between vessels during sea trials, marking a first for the global shipping industry.
The company said the operation reduces environmental impact and helps avoid schedule delays caused by terminal congestion.
Traditionally, LNG carriers must load and later return gas to terminals for trials, but the new method enables direct transfers between trial vessels at sea, improving efficiency and flexibility.
Hanwha added that following its earlier success with the world’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation within a shipyard, this latest milestone further demonstrates its expertise in gas trial technologies.
The firm said it will continue driving innovation to support a more sustainable maritime future.
