Hapag-Lloyd has named its newest LNG-fuelled container ship, the Wilhelmshaven Express, at the JadeWeserPort in Germany.
The 23,660-TEU vessel is the 12th and final ship in the company’s Hamburg Express-class series, built by Hanwha Ocean in South Korea.
Each ship is fitted with dual-fuel engines that can run on LNG or traditional marine fuels.
The Wilhelmshaven Express will operate on the Gemini Cooperation’s NE1 service between Asia and Northern Europe.
“These ships show our commitment to lower emissions and long-term growth,” said Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen.
Hapag-Lloyd spent about USD 2 billion on the Hamburg Express-class programme and plans to add 24 more dual-fuel vessels from 2027 to 2029.
