South Korea’s HMM has named a new 9,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessel at a ceremony held at HD Hyundai Samho’s shipyard in Yeongam, South Korea.
The ship, named “HMM Clover”, is equipped with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system designed to reduce emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.
The vessel measures 274.76 metres in length, with a beam of 45.60 metres and a height of 24.80 metres.
Methanol is increasingly viewed as a next-generation marine fuel, with lower emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and greenhouse gases.
The ceremony was attended by South Korea’s Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Jeon Jae-soo, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok, and executives from HMM and HD Hyundai Samho.
