Höegh Autoliners, a Norway-based deep-sea vehicle carrier operator, has joined the industry body World Shipping Council (WSC).
The World Shipping Council, a Washington DC–based trade association representing liner shipping companies, said the move strengthens its representation of the vehicle carrier sector alongside container and ro-ro operators.
“We are pleased to welcome Höegh Autoliners to the World Shipping Council,” said Joe Kramek, WSC President & CEO.
“Vehicle carriers are a core part of liner shipping that move global trade. Höegh Autoliners brings valuable expertise and perspective as we work with policymakers on safety, sustainability and effective global regulation.”
Höegh Autoliners CEO Andreas Enger said the company’s investments in its Aurora Class newbuild programme had positioned it for zero-emission deep-sea shipping and that globally consistent regulation was increasingly important as trade patterns shift.
The WSC said its members account for more than 90% of global liner shipping capacity.
