Kawasaki Heavy Industries has delivered the LUCENT PATHFINDER, an 86,700 cbm LPG- and ammonia carrier powered by LPG fuel, to TSURUGI MARITIMA S.A..
The vessel, Kawasaki hull number 1767, is the eleventh unit built to the shipbuilder’s latest 86,700 cbm design for LPG-fuelled LPG/ammonia carriers.
It offers increased cargo capacity compared with conventional 84,000 cbm LPG carriers while maintaining similar principal dimensions, allowing it to operate at major LPG terminals worldwide.
The carrier is equipped with separate cargo tanks, enabling the simultaneous transport of LPG — already widely used as a lower-carbon energy source — and ammonia, which is being explored as a potential zero-carbon marine fuel. While ammonia-capable from a cargo perspective, the vessel’s propulsion system runs on LPG.
Kawasaki said it has now completed 18 LPG-fuelled vessels and 81 LPG carriers in total, and will continue developing LPG-powered and alternative-fuel ship designs in response to tightening environmental regulations.
