Container line AP Moller Maersk has clarified that it has not set a specific timeline for resuming vessel transits through the Suez Canal, following recent media reports suggesting a restart could be imminent.
In a joint customer update with Hapag-Lloyd under the Gemini Cooperation, the companies said safety remains the priority and that services are currently operating via the Cape of Good Hope.
The partners said they continue to monitor developments in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait and surrounding region, while carrying out ongoing security assessments.
“At the launch of the Gemini Cooperation in February 2025, A.P. Moller – Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd introduced a Cape of Good Hope network due to the on-going disruptions in the Red Sea,” the companies said.
They added: “As the safety of crew, vessels and cargo remains our top priority, we currently have no specific timing to change the Gemini East-West network to sailing through the Red Sea.”
The Suez Canal Authority and Maersk recently signed a strategic-partnership agreement that, according to the canal authority, will see Maersk-affiliated vessels begin returning via the Suez Canal from early December as part of a phased re-entry
