Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has shipped an ammonia fuel supply system (AFSS) and ammonia gas abatement system (AGAS) for Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG).

The systems are designed for J-ENG’s 7UEC50LSJA-HPSCR ammonia-fuelled marine engine and mark the first units produced by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding. Commissioning is set to begin shortly.

The AFSS provides stable and safe ammonia fuel delivery to the engine, while the AGAS treats surplus ammonia generated during fuel switching from ammonia to fuel oil. Both systems feature integrated remote operation and automatic control.

The pairing of the engine and onboard fuel systems is expected to enable early vessel-based verification and support wider deployment of ammonia propulsion.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding said it will continue strengthening its capabilities to meet rising demand for ammonia-fuelled vessels as the sector pursues decarbonisation.
