On 21 October 2025, Net Zero Marine (NZM) completed the installation of a 0.55 MW shore power system at Svitzer’s Denton Wharf on the River Thames — eliminating the need for diesel generators and reducing CO₂ emissions by more than 280,000 kg annually, equal to saving around 4,000 litres of diesel each week.
The project marks a major milestone in NZM and Svitzer’s green energy transition, creating the largest shore power facility on the Thames and one of the biggest unsubsidised installations in the UK.
The system powers Svitzer’s Thames tug fleet with 100% renewable electricity from TotalEnergies. It features dual independent power suppliers for resilience, a cable bridge over the flood wall, almost 900 metres of marine-grade cabling, and five isolation points for enhanced safety.
NZM said the project proves that with the right investment, shore power can deliver immediate environmental and operational benefits for the maritime sector.
