Northern Lights JV has awarded long-term charter agreements for four new liquid CO₂ transport vessels as part of plans to expand its European carbon capture and storage (CCS) operations.

One vessel has been awarded to a consortium of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” LINE) and MISC Berhad, with a second vessel to be awarded to the same consortium in April 2026. Two additional charter agreements have been awarded to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

The first three vessels will each have a cargo capacity of 12,000 cbm of liquid CO₂ and will operate under long-term time charters transporting CO₂ from commercial customers across Europe. The expanded fleet supports Northern Lights’ project to increase transport and storage capacity to more than 5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year.

The vessels will be owned by the respective shipping companies, with construction split between Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. Ltd and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Deliveries are scheduled between the second half of 2028 and the first half of 2029.

Northern Lights has already taken delivery of three 7,500 cbm CO₂ carriers since late 2024, with a fourth sister vessel due to enter service in 2026.
