Marine insurance firm NorthStandard has appointed Steve Cockburn as Chief Executive Officer of NorthStandard Europe, the group’s Dublin-based subsidiary overseeing around 40% of the insurer’s global book.

The appointment follows the formal integration of the two Dublin-based legacy entities of North P&I and The Standard Club, which merged in 2023.

Before the merger, they were the only P&I clubs established in Ireland.

Cockburn will relocate from Newcastle to Dublin and brings more than 20 years of experience with NorthStandard.

He previously chaired the International Group’s Compulsory Insurance Committee for nearly six years and most recently served as Chief of Geographical Sectors, with global responsibility for blue-water membership. He also led the business integration of the North-Standard merger.

In his new role, Cockburn will remain on NorthStandard’s Executive Leadership Team. The Dublin-based heads of claims, underwriting, finance and risk will now report directly to him.

NorthStandard said the move reinforces Dublin’s role as a growing centre of excellence for marine insurance, with Cockburn and his team set to relocate to new offices at Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in January 2026.
