Pacific International Lines (PIL) has named Kota Orkid, the fourth vessel in its 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel ‘O’ Class series.

The naming ceremony was held at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in Jiangsu, China, with Lady Sponsor Annie Yap, wife of PIL Board Director Yap Chee Keong.

Kota Orkid joins sister ships Kota Oasis, Kota Ocean and Kota Odyssey on PIL’s South West Africa Service, boosting the company’s regional capacity.

PIL Chairman S.S. Teo said the milestone supports the firm’s fleet renewal strategy and its move toward greener shipping.

The Singapore-based carrier now has eight LNG-powered vessels in service and another 12 on order.
