Port of Los Angeles, the US largest container port, handled 10.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in 2025, Executive Director Gene Seroka said at the port’s annual State of the Port address on Thursday.

The result marks the third time in the port’s 118-year history that volumes have exceeded 10 million TEU and represents its 26th consecutive year as the country’s busiest container gateway.

“Every record set and every bar raised is a direct result of the dedication and commitment of the people who make this Port work,” Seroka told more than 900 industry and community representatives attending the event. “Cargo remains the lifeblood of the U.S. economy. American farmers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers all depend on how well we move that cargo.”

Looking ahead, Seroka said the port is prioritising major infrastructure and technology investments to support future demand, including the proposed Pier 500 container terminal, terminal expansions, rail upgrades and a new cruise centre at the Outer Harbor.

He also highlighted continued investment in digital cargo flow systems and zero-emission infrastructure, supported by federal and state funding, to reduce emissions while accommodating further growth.
