RFOcean has taken delivery of RF Ran, a 6,750 DWT stainless steel Ice 1A chemical tanker, marking the first vessel in a new series focused on efficiency gains and lower emissions.
The vessel was delivered from Wuhu Shipyard and will be managed by Miklagard S Ship Management SA, RFOcean’s ship management subsidiary.
A key feature of RF Ran is its diesel-electric propulsion system, where the propeller is driven by an electric motor rather than a conventional mechanical setup, enabling improved fuel efficiency, optimised power use, and reduced emissions.
The vessel is also ready and partly fitted for e-methanol, positioning it for future fuel adoption in the European regional market from 2030 onwards.
RFOcean described the delivery as a move from “vision to reality”, underlining its focus on technological innovation and greener vessel design.
The company acknowledged key partners including Link Marine Ltd, Fearnley Securities, and Bureau Veritas.
Contributors recognised include Tayfun Bozoglu and Hans Christian Giæver-Enger.
The delivery underscores growing momentum behind hybrid propulsion and alternative fuels, particularly in regional chemical tanker trades suited for early adoption of lower-emission technologies.
