Shell has signed time-charter agreements with Purus for two new 18,900 cbm LNG bunker vessels, to be built at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd in China and delivered in 2028.

These latest agreements follow Shell’s earlier deal with Ibaizabal Group for two 18,000 cbm LNG bunker vessels, currently under construction at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd in Korea and set for delivery in 2027.

With 14 LNG bunker vessels already operating across 28 locations in 13 countries, Shell said the four newbuilds — including the two new Purus vessels — will strengthen its LNG bunkering presence in Europe, the US, the Caribbean, and Singapore.

Deployment will depend on customer demand once the vessels enter service.

“As marine LNG demand is projected to exceed 16 MTPA by 2030, this investment reflects our commitment to staying ahead of the curve – expanding capacity, improving accessibility of LNG and bio-LNG, and reinforcing Shell’s leadership in the LNG bunkering market,” said Dexter Belmar, Vice President Downstream LNG.
