Oil major Shell will begin a major maintenance shutdown at its Pernis refinery in Rotterdam in mid-September to carry out inspections, upgrades, and safety works.
The Pernis site, Europe’s largest integrated refinery, has a processing capacity of about 404,000 barrels per day.
It produces a wide range of fuels and feedstocks, including marine bunker fuels that supply the shipping industry.
Shell said the planned turnaround is part of its routine maintenance programme, designed to keep facilities safe, reliable, and future-proof.
Such large-scale shutdowns are critical to ensuring operational integrity and enabling refiners to meet evolving energy and environmental requirements.
