Singapore and India have agreed to set up a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) linking the two nations, targeting advances in both maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi on Thursday during Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s state visit, with leaders of both countries present for the exchange, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said.

The corridor will connect government agencies and industry players in efforts to roll out infrastructure and technologies that enable the use of low- and zero-carbon marine fuels. It will also foster cooperation on digital data-sharing and research into next-generation green solutions.

India is expected to contribute its renewable energy capacity and manufacturing strength to the production and export of alternative fuels, while Singapore’s role as a global hub and bunkering leader positions it to handle their distribution and adoption.

By combining these strengths, the two nations aim to play a larger role in the global transition to sustainable shipping.
