Stena Line has agreed to acquire the Latvian terminal operator Terrabalt, taking over the RoRo, bulk and general cargo terminal at Liepaja, the country’s third-largest port.

The port, part of the Liepāja Special Economic Zone established in 1997, already hosts Stena Line’s Liepaja–Travemünde service with two vessels.

“We believe in a prosperous future for the Baltic Sea region, where investments in infrastructure and increased cooperation between the countries are key to strengthening trade and resilience throughout the region,” said Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.

Stena Line already owns the port operations in Ventspils, Latvia’s second-largest port, and runs services between Ventspils–Nynäshamn, Gdynia–Karlskrona and Trelleborg–Rostock.

The deal remains subject to Latvian competition authority approval.

Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
