Svitzer has signed a letter of intent with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to build a new generation of electric TRAnsverse tugs in India.
The agreement, signed during India Maritime Week in Mumbai, marks a key step in Svitzer’s plan to switch to cleaner towage operations and to support India’s “Make in India” drive.
The 26-metre electric tugs will be built at CSL’s facilities, combining Svitzer’s experience in sustainable towage with India’s strong shipbuilding and engineering base.
TRAnsverse tugs are known for their high manoeuvrability and energy efficiency, helping reduce emissions and improve safety in port operations.
Svitzer already operates a diesel version, Svitzer Taurus, and the new project will deliver its first electric model built in India.
