Świnoujście has carried out Poland’s first LNG ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering, marking a new step in the country’s move toward LNG marine fuel.

On 11 November, TT-Line’s LNG-powered Peter Pan was refuelled at the Świnoujście Ferry Terminal from the bunker vessel Avenir Ascencion, carrying LNG supplied by ORLEN.

The operation was performed side-by-side and is the first time an LNG ferry has been bunkered STS in Poland.

Until now, STS bunkering in the country had only involved conventional fuels.

The milestone came just a day after the Świnoujście LNG Terminal completed its first commercial LNG loading, made possible by the terminal’s expansion and the addition of a second quay.

The LNG loaded there on 10 November was used for the bunkering operation the following day.

TT-Line said the development supports the wider rollout of cleaner ferry operations in the Baltic Sea region. Its vessels Peter Pan and Nils Holgersson are currently the only ferries on the Szczecin–Świnoujście route able to use the port’s new LNG infrastructure.
