Thailand’s Regional Container Lines Public Company (RCL) has used a biofuel blend for the first time to power one of its voyages.

RCL’s 1,707 TEU ship, M.V. Piya Bhum, set sail on 19 October using B24-VLSFO for its voyage departing from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The company claims the biofuel can reduce carbon emissions by 15–19.2%.

“The 1,707 TEU capacity vessel is on its journey on RCL’s RSK2, RCL South China-Sihanoukville service route, connecting ports in China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

“The use of this biofuel reduces the carbon footprint of the RCL fleet without compromising efficiency, contributing to the company’s long-term sustainability goals,” RCL said.
