A new ship-to-ship biofuel bunkering service has started at Tokyo Port through a collaboration between Cosmo Oil Marketing and NX Shoji.
The partners will deliver B24 blends, produced by combining fuel oil from NYK with fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).
NX Shoji is handling the blending and supply chain management.
The service has been designated as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s programme to promote the commercialisation of decarbonised fuels, a key element in its push towards a “Zero Emission Tokyo.”
Cosmo Oil said the launch underlines its commitment to advancing a sustainable energy transition in the shipping sector.
Biofuel as a drop-in fuel can be used in existing ships without needing to undergo modification, making it apt for existing ships in the global fleet.
