Eight men have been detained after Singapore Police Coast Guard officers uncovered an illegal bunkering operation involving two tugboats off Tuas on 10 October.

Preliminary findings indicate that crew members of a Singapore-registered tug siphoned about SGD 6,917 of marine gas oil and sold it to a foreign-registered vessel without company authorisation.

Both vessels were intercepted, and the fuel — along with 92 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes — was seized. The suspects, aged between 24 and 61, will be charged with criminal breach of trust and receiving stolen property.

Authorities said they will continue regular enforcement patrols to prevent illegal fuel sales in Singapore waters.
